I was able to attend opening night of OVO at the Maverick Center and it was amazing! I have never been to a Cirque Du Soleil show before so I wasn’t quite sure what to expect. I loved the costumes, music and most importantly the awesome performances. I opted not to bring my little ones, and I’m glad because I don’t think they would have been as entertained as we were because they don’t understand all the talent and skill the performances require. I thought the whole show was very engaging. My husband and I agreed that we loved everything, except for the bugs who acted as clowns to give the other performers time to set up. Sometimes they were funny, but other times you just really wanted the next act to begin.
Here are some of my favorite acts:
I am so excited that Cirque Du Soleil’s OVO Show is coming to the Maverick Center this month! I was able to attend a blogger event where we learned more about the show and we even got to hold different bugs! Kim’s Cold Blooded Creatures taught us so much about all of her different bugs. We started off by making these colorful bug masks. My kids loved all the fun glitter and jewels and feathers. Then Kim had some time to teach us about each of the bugs she brought. I was surprised when my son wasn’t scared to hold all of them. I also decided to hold the tarantula, even though I am scared of spiders!
OVO is an “immersive touring show, teeming with life. Insects work, play, fight and look for love in a non-stop riot of energy in motion. Their home is filled with biodiversity, beauty, action and moments of quiet emotion. The awestruck insects are intensely curious when a mysterious egg appears, representing the enigma and cycles of their lives.” (Excerpt from the Cirque Du Soleil website.)

My family had the opportunity to attend Monster Jam on opening night. I was excited to take my two children, because the last time I had attended was with my husband before they were born. It was a really fun family night watching all the trucks compete.
Some tips if you are attending:
My two children were pretty excited at first, but they did lose some interest towards the end. I would recommend the show for children ages 5+ but my younger one (2 years) did like it, she just can’t sit for the whole show and had to walk around for a little bit. All in all it is a fun family night and exciting to see the different trucks and watch the drivers’ skills at maneuvering them.
This was our family’s favorite truck of the night. Look at all those cool spikes!
The infamous 2,000 horsepower engines are revving up again as the massive 10,000 pound machines are ready to ring in the start of 2017 into Utah as the Monster Jam® Triple Threat Series™ presented by AMSOIL, the most adrenaline charged motorsports experience for families on the planet, returns to the Vivint Smart Home Arena for three action-packed events on Friday, January 6th and Saturday, January 7th.
I had the opportunity yesterday to attend the grand opening of the newest Deseret Industries in Springville, Utah.
**Update!! The turkey drive was moved to November 10th instead of the 8th to avoid conflict with Election Day!
If you missed my last post about Disney on Ice, read about it HERE.
Mark your calendars! On Thursday November 10th, Disney on Ice is partnering with The Utah Food Bank to host the ‘Turkey Tuesday’ Turkey Drive. Everyone will have the opportunity to donate one frozen turkey in exchange for two tickets to the show. Those turkeys will then be served this Thanksgiving to those in need by the food bank. Please note – turkeys must be frozen for the Utah Food Bank to accept them.
This is such a wonderful opportunity to support the food bank and those less fortunate and have a nice little thank you in return. Please think about donating for a great cause this Tuesday, November 8th!

As you may already know, I love a good deal. Usually every Saturday morning I am out scouting yard sales. But yard sales only happen on the weekends and during good weather. My other favorite place to get a good deal is at Deseret Industries. Haven’t ever heard of Deseret Industries? Deseret Industries is a thrift and donation store located in many states along the West coast. But not only do they have some of the best deals and give new life to your old goods, they also offer their associates important on-the-job experience and training. If you have items laying around, consider taking them to the Deseret Industries! So many items in my house have come from Deseret Industries and I don’t think you would ever know it! I have found great quality items, from home decor, furniture, books, and clothes.
At this time of the year Deseret Industries is the perfect place to look for an inexpensive Halloween costume. Most costumes are priced at $10 or less! Rather then paying so much more at other Halloween stores, you can purchase affordable costumes for your entire family. Plus, they restock their sales floor every day with thousands of new items, so you never know what you will find! I stopped by my local Deseret Industries this last week to scout out some costumes for my family.
First, I got this super cute little witch skirt and hat for only $2.50 total!

I made this cake a while ago but realized I hadn’t put the pictures on the blog. When I won a birthday party at the Living Planet Aquarium in Draper, Utah, I couldn’t wait to make a sea-themed cake. My son has always loved Finding Nemo, so I included him on the cake along with some other fun sea creatures- an octopus, crab, shark fin and a stingray. I used marshmallow fondant to cover the cake and make all of the creatures.
If you are thinking about having a party at the Living Planet Aquarium, it is awesome! You get a private party room and the kids gets to play at Tui’s Playplace, which is a huge playground with slides and things to climb through. The staff were so friendly and the room is already decorated in a cute sea theme. They provide the food (pizza and soda) and the tablecloth and all the plates and utensils. They even clean up everything afterwards. After the party you can go explore the aquarium which has so many neat exhibits and displays. We really loved everything about it.
I was able to attend a showing of Odysseo by Cavalia in Sandy, Utah. If you have driven on I-15 in Utah at all, then you probably have seen the billboards everywhere! I wondered what the show was about but didn’t quite understand after I visited their website. I went to the show pretty much only knowing that I would be seeing horses.
I attended during social media week so we were given VIP tickets which included a buffet dinner beforehand. There was a lot of different foods to choose from, but much of it was very different than what you typically expect at a buffet unless you are in southern France. Nothing was labeled and the lighting in the tent is dark so some things were hard to figure out what they were. I enjoyed the food and thought the variety was good. Plus, it was nice to have drinks and popcorn for the show and dessert during intermission.
After the buffet we enjoyed the show from front row seats. Sitting front row was pretty spectacular and I have to warn you that you do get wet during one part of the show. Now, after having seen the show, I understand how it has been called “the most amazing show.” That is how I would describe it in one word-amazing. Its a little hard to explain what the show is exactly, but it’s a mixture of the horses performing, singing, dancing, acrobatics and aeralists. The horses are so beautiful and some of the scenes they set up are serene and peaceful for some parts and wild and action packed for others. I was tense during some of the tricks they performed because they seem so perilous! The performers are truly talented and they work with the horses so well. I loved watching their interactions together. From riding atop two horses in flowing, beautiful costumes, to jumps over poles and graceful aerialists performing after being lifted off the horses. Some of the acts were truly breathtaking.
The show runs for 2 hours with a 30 minute intermission. I felt like the time flew by, I was so engaged with everything going on. All of the seats seem to have a good view of the show, as it’s not that large of an area. There is $10 parking available close to the tent, but we parked near Dillard’s and walked. I noticed that the will-call line does get long and there are a lot of people around so I would suggest arriving at least 30 minutes before the show.
Cavalia is running through June 20th, and tickets can be purchased at cavalia.net
When I first saw the huge white tent going up by South Towne mall, I was intrigued and had to find out what was going on. After seeing a billboard I looked up their website. The show looks amazing! You can see clips of it here- http://po.st/aUHNDG.
Odysseo, “marries the equestrian arts, stage arts and high-tech theatrical effects at never-before-seen levels. This larger-than-life show sends hearts racing, but it is also a feast for the eyes that succeeds in delivering the spectacular with soul.” There are 70 horses and 45 actors in the production which Larry King said, “surpasses the world’s greatest shows!”
I am running a giveaway on my Instagram account —->HERE.
Here’s what you’ll win-

My family was able to attend a special premiere of Kung Fu Panda 3 this past Saturday. The event was held at our local Cinemark and was sponsored by a local radio station. It was a super fun event that we all enjoyed. We each got our own set of panda ears before the movie and a movie poster to take home (which proudly has a place on my son’s wall). Before the movie the kids got to pick out their own balloon animals (each picked a panda of course) and we got some complimentary popcorn and drinks. There were a few Make a Wish kids in attendance and we were able to cheer for them as they walked the red carpet that had been set up and got their pictures taken by a photographer.
The movie brings back the lovable and funny character Po (voiced by Jack Black) and other favorite cast members like Angelina Jolie, Dustin Hoffman, and Lucy Liu. Po is enjoying life as the Dragon Warrior, when Po’s long lost father returns and they journey together to the secret panda village. There’s a new villain Kai, who is determined to gather all the Kung Fu master’s “chi”, including Po’s.
We were able to see the movie in 3D. There are some movies that I have really enjoyed in 3D and others that I thought weren’t worth the expense. This one was excellent in 3D. So many of the sequences were really fun and enhanced by the 3D experience. The movie’s bad guy, Kai, uses axes on chains as his weapon of choice and those were again really fun to watch in 3D. Our 2 year old had a hard time keeping the glasses on, so I wouldn’t recommend the movie in 3D if you have ones younger than 3 (our 4 year old loved the action in 3D).
Overall we thought the movie was really fun and enjoyable. I feel like it’s suitable for any age. The villain wasn’t a scary character. My husband felt like it was a little more predictable than the other two movies and not his favorite. When we were discussing that it wasn’t quite as good as the first two afterwards, my son chimed in that he thought it was awesome. I think it will for sure be a hit with the kids and fun for parents too. Kung Fu Panda 3 opens Friday, January 29th in theaters.
