DIY BUFFALO PLAID CHRISTMAS ORNAMENTS WITH THE COBALT CRICUT EXPLORE AIR 2

I made these darling buffalo plaid Christmas ornaments with my Cobalt Cricut Explore Air 2 and supplies from JOANN.

This is a sponsored post brought to you by JOANN. All opinions are my own.

Did you know there are certain colors of the Cricut Explore Air 2 that you can buy ONLY at JOANN? I love this gorgeous Cobalt Cricut Explore Air 2 that is exclusively at JOANN stores.

I do a lot of my Cricut posts with my Cricut Maker, so you may be wondering what you can do with the Cricut Explore Air 2. First, of all it’s 2X faster than the original Cricut Explore. It also can cut over 100 different materials (!) You can cut everything from vinyl, cardstock, and iron-on to faux leather, and glitter paper.

I used it to cut out iron-on for these wood ornaments. And, yes, you can use iron-on on wood! It’s much faster than vinyl. I love it for smaller projects like these ornaments.

You can upload your own artwork in Cricut Design Space for free. Once you upload a file, you can print it or you can cut it out. I love this option, because you don’t have to be restricted to just Cricut cartridges anymore. The possibilities are endless! You can also use your laptop, iPad or iPhone to design. The app is user-friendly and not hard to learn.

I found these cute pre-made Wood Hollow ornaments in the wood section at my JOANN store. It’s nice that they are all ready for you to add your own design to. Even the hole is already drilled.

I’ve included the Cricut Design Space link to these cute ornaments and a tutorial below.

Supplies for iron on wood Cricut buffalo plaid ornaments

Supplies for Buffalo Plaid Christmas Ornaments:

Cricut Explore Air 2 Cobalt
Cricut Strongbond Everyday Iron – On – Black
Cricut 3 Sheets 12″x17″ Patterned Iron – on Samplers – Lumber Jack
Cricut 2 pk 12″x12″ Standard Cutting Mats
Cricut Easypress Machine Raspberry – 6×7 inch base (Optional, or use an Iron)
Wood Hollow Ornament (found in the wood craft section at JOANN)

Instructions:

Open the Cricut Design Space file found HERE if you would like to make the same ornaments. Remember you can edit Cricut Design Space files and save them. I think the bear ornament would be especially cute personalized with a name, or with Mama Bear.

Make sure you measure your ornaments, because each of them vary slightly in size. Resize your images accordingly.

Click on Make It, and select “Iron-on” as your material. *Important* When you use iron-on you need to make sure you select Mirror for all your mats.

Place your iron-on on the mat, shiny side down and cut out your designs.

Carefully weed the excess iron-on and and get them ready for application. If you are using the EasyPress, then use the interactive recommended settings chart found HERE.

Iron-on the first layer, peel off the protective liner, and then iron-on the next layer. I like to put a piece of parchment paper over the whole design so my EasyPress never touches the iron-on material.

Once you have the second layer ironed-on, you have some cute ornaments that will look great on your tree or make great gifts!
