You can customize your front doormat in no time at all with a stencil you cut using your Cricut machine. I even created a cute mat to layer underneath with some outdoor fabric I got at JOANN.

I have been itching to try a stenciled door mat for a long time now. Making custom stencils with your Cricut machine is so easy!
I love to use stencil vinyl to make stencils for wood signs. (You can see some of the ones I have done HERE and HERE.)
I tried a few stenciling methods on an old door mat to see which method I liked best. After some trial and error, I decided I liked using cardstock as my stencil for a doormat.
I love when people layer their door mats with another cute mat underneath. I found some outdoor fabric at my JOANN store and stitched up a mat in a few minutes. It cost me less than $5 to make.

Instructions for DIY Stenciled Doormat:
Open the provided Design Space file or make your own design.
Click on Make It. Select “Cardstock” as your material and cut out your stencil.
You can tape around the edges of your mat or use pins to keep it in place. I did pins all around, but would probably use tape next time.
Use your pins to keep the smaller inside pieces of the letters in place.
Once your stencil is secure, use your stencil brush to apply the paint. Make sure to apply the paint sparingly (less is better!) so that it doesn’t seep under the stencil. You also want to apply the pain in short up and down motions to prevent it from going under your stencil. I also like to hold my stencil in place with my other hand so that it doesn’t move at all.
You will need to apply 2 coats of paint for better visibility. After you finish the black letters, clean your brush and apply the green paint to the trees.
Make sure to apply two coats of the green paint too.
After your paint has dried, remove the pins and take of your stencil. If there are any parts that need a touch up, use your sharpie marker or a small paintbrush.
Once your paint is dried, make sure you are in a well ventilated area and then apply the Rustoleum sealer over your mat to protect it.
Now you are all done! Enjoy your personalized doormat! If you have any questions, let me know in the comments below.
