I love that mermaids and unicorns are all the rage right now. There are so many fun designs you can make! And who doesn’t want to be a mermaid?! Even better is that Cricut came out with this awesome Holographic Iron-on that is in JOANN stores now! It’s so shiny and the way it looks depends on how it catches the light.
Iron-on is such a fun medium to get creative with and make your own unique one-of-a-kind shirts, hats and totes. You can even use iron-on on some unique surfaces like wood and paper! There are so many possibilities!
Tips for Holographic Iron-on Success
First, be aware that your Holographic Iron-on will look different depending on the color of shirt you put it on. Since the iron-on is a tiny bit translucent, it changes color a bit depending on what’s underneath. So if you put it on a black shirt it will look different than on a white shirt. I don’t think this a bad thing, because I like that you can get different looks from the same color, but you should be aware of it.
Make sure to follow the instructions provided by Cricut for the best iron-on results. You can view them HERE. One important step is letting your liner cool 30 seconds before peeling. This prevents your design from wrinkling. I also like to peel a little corner up and see if my design has been completely pressed. If not, I press it again.

Instructions:
Open the mermaid design I used HERE or make your own. (This particular image costs 99 cents in Design Space.) There are tons of images available in Design Space, but remember you can always upload your own image and use it for free.
Click on Make it and select Holographic Iron-on as your material. Don’t forget to mirror your image!
Make sure your fine tip blade is loaded in your machine. Place your Holographic Iron-on on your mat liner down. You will be cutting on the back of the iron-on.
Cut out your design, then unload your mat. Use your Cricut tools to help weed out the excess material. I loved how shiny the Holographic Iron-on is when you are done weeding!
Now that your design is ready, it’s time to up your EasyPress (or iron). Use the heat guide instructions found on Cricut’s website, HERE. Make sure to select your EasyPress type and material type.
I have a mat that I use to press my shirt on, but you can also use a folded up towel.
Don’t forget to follow all of the heat guide steps, including turning your shirt over and pressing it on the back. This helps ensure your design will stay put!
Now you have the cutest shirt for your little one to enjoy! I hope you will try out some of this fun new Holographic Iron-on.
