MILK CAN HOUSE NUMBER PROJECT WITH VINYL

I updated this old milk can into a cute farmhouse style house number using some Rust-oleum paint, vinyl and my Cricut machine.

I have had this old milk can sitting around for a long time. I had good intentions to update it when I bought it from a yard sale years ago but other projects got in the way, and it just waited. This past weekend, I decided to just do it! And you know what? It didn’t take long at all. I wish I had done it years ago.

I forgot to take some better before pictures, but it was rusted, duct taped in spots (I don’t know why?) and an awful yellow color.

Here’s the one before picture I have of the can and although it doesn’t look totally awful, the can was in worse shape than the picture shows.

I removed the duct tape, washed the can, and used some steel wool to remove rust. Then I used Rust-oleum spray paint in Smokey Beige to paint the entire can.

This was after one coat. I added a second coat to cover the can entirely. After I had my milk can painted, I knew I wanted to add my house number. I used my Cricut Maker to add the cute vinyl house number. Below is the tutorial for using permanent vinyl.

Supplies:

Cricut Machine
Permanent Vinyl
StandardGrip Mat
Transfer tape
Weeding Tools
Milk Can

Instructions:

Open Design Space, choose a font and make your own house number. Once you have your desired design, click on Make It.  Secure your vinyl on your StandardGrip Mat and load into your machine.

Make sure you have Premium Vinyl selected and cut out your design.

Carefully weed your vinyl with your tools.

Apply transfer tape with your scraper to the vinyl. Flip your design over, and carefully remove the vinyl backing.

Apply the vinyl to the milk can using your scraper tool again. Peel off the transfer tape at a 45 degree angle. If it seems like it’s not sticking, press it down again with your scraper tool and try again.

Once your transfer tape is removed, your project is done. Now enjoy your new house number milk can! If you have any questions, let me know in the comments below!

  1. Love the font, can you tell me what the font is. I am doing wedding table numbers on burlap tags and this font would look nice on them.

    Thank you in advance.
