These patriotic red, white and blue cupcake toppers are made using your Cricut and supplies from JOANN.

If you are getting ready for your 4th of July party you will want to add making these cute patriotic cupcake toppers to your list! Cricut’s Print then Cut feature makes them so fast and easy. I love all the fun cake supplies available at my local JOANN store. I picked up some adorable Sweet Tooth Fairy sprinkles and cupcake liners that I thought would be perfect for a 4th of July party. I also found some cute Wilton star sprinkles to add to my cupcakes. The Wilton candy melts sticks are perfect to use for your cupcake toppers.

Designing cupcake toppers in Cricut Design Space is so easy to do! You print your design on your home printer and then your Cricut will cut it out for you.
Keep in mind these tips:
– You can convert any image to a printable one; just change it in the Layers panel on the right hand side of the design screen to the printer icon.
-Make sure you flatten your image if you have multiple ones so that the machine knows not to cut out individual elements in your design, just the outermost shape.
If you want to make my exact toppers, you can open my design here ——–> 4th of July Cupcake Toppers
Click on Make it and send your design to your printer. Remember you can only use white cardstock for the Explore series Cricut machines. If you have a Cricut Maker you can use other colors of paper.
Once your design has printed, place it on your Cricut mat and load it into your machine. The Cricut machine will automatically read the registration marks on your design and cut out the cupcake toppers perfectly! (I always love watching it search for the registration marks with its cute little light.)
Use your hot glue gun and hot glue to apply the toppers to the candy melt sticks. Now you are ready to use your fun toppers on cupcakes!
The next step is making your cupcakes. I chose to use the striped red design from the Sweet Tooth fairy pack. I love that the Sweet Tooth Fairy baking cups are grease proof so they don’t lose any of the pretty color in the liner. There’s nothing worse then picking a cute cupcake liner and having the design disappear into your baked cupcake. I also liked how the liners make your cupcakes nice and tall. You can see in the picture below that they are a bit skinnier than a standard muffin pan, but they are also taller. I chose to do funfetti cupcakes with a nice buttercream frosting. Another great frosting option would be my Whipped Cream Frosting recipe, one of the most popular on my blog. Just read the comments to see how much people love it, even if you aren’t a frosting lover!
Once my cupcakes were baked and cooled, I used my Wilton 1M Tip to pipe the frosting on top and then I covered them with all the cute sprinkles. The Wilton star sprinkle mix had some yellow stars in it, so I just carefully picked those out and only went with the red and blue ones. I liked the contrast of the lighter blue pearl sprinkles from the Sweet Tooth fairy sprinkle mix. Don’t they look so pretty?
You want to make sure you put your sprinkles on fairly quickly after you pipe your frosting so that it’s still sticky and the sprinkles stay on. If you wait too long, your frosting will dry out and the sprinkles will roll off. I also recommend putting a plate underneath your cupcakes when you are decorating them to catch any excess sprinkles.
After I made my cupcakes, I created this cute table setup for them with the Land of the Free decor available at my JOANN store. I think it turned out pretty cute!
I hope you will try making your own cupcake toppers! If you have any questions, let me know in the comments below.
