Its no secret that I love making all kinds of cakes. But what about people who don’t like cake? (gasp!) This donut cake is the perfect alternative! I used my Cricut Explore Air to make the custom cake topper and cute photo cutouts. A tiered cupcake stand was used to hold the donuts and I also used some edible gold spray to give them a slight shimmer.
First, I used my Canon PIXMA MG7720 printer to print the pictures. I really liked this printer because it is super fast and the colors are great. My favorite part, though, is that I could print wirelessly right from my phone! This is a wonderful option since most people have the majority of their photos only stored on their phone. All you have to do is download the app and within a few minutes you can print with just a few clicks on your phone. Don’t make the same mistake I did and make sure you put the photo paper in the right way- the machine has a little picture in the paper tray to show you. I was so excited I didn’t even check and ended up printing on the back of my photo paper at first! Whoops! Besides that little mistake, everything else about the machine is nice and straight forward. I even set it up all myself in about 30 minutes. I love the sleek design, and how user friendly it is. I am excited to try some of the other options like scanning in the future, and a great bonus is that it is compatible with the Cricut “Print & Cut” feature.
Then, I used my Cricut machine to cut out a personalized cake topper and the cute photo toppers. It’s your story-make it personal! I love how easy it is to use my Cricut to cut out photos in any shape imaginable. From more complicated cuts to simple shapes, really anything is possible! I used a quatrefoil shape for this cake. I let the bride choose what saying she wanted for the top, and she thought “Love Is Sweet” went perfectly with their story.
